Your incision may be closed with staples, steri-strips, or skin glue.
If you are sent home with sutures or staples, they will be looked at on first post-operative visit
Change bandage after 2 days or if dressing gets dirty. If there is blood on it then change it as often as needed
It may take time for numbness and pain to improve after cervical or lumbar spine surgery. Some pain in the surgical area is normal for weeks following the procedure.
If your post-operative pain is significantly worse than before surgery, contact your surgeon’s office immediately.
Prescription Information
You will likely receive a pain medication and muscle relaxer prescription upon discharge to help manage post-surgical pain.
Refills
Refills are authorized by your surgery team if deemed necessary. Note that not all surgical teams offer refills for pain medications.
All prescription refills will be sent electronically to your designated pharmacy.
Stay hydrated to help your body recover and reduce the risk of constipation from pain medications
May use over-the-counter stool softeners and/or laxatives as needed for constipation.
